A couple of days ago I blogged about John McCain's false ad about why Barack Obama did not visit wounded troops in Germany. But apparently the story gets even worse. This according to David Kiley at Business Week:
What the McCain campaign doesn’t want people to know, according to one GOP strategist I spoke with over the weekend, is that they had an ad script ready to go if Obama had visited the wounded troops saying that Obama was...wait for it...using wounded troops as campaign props. So, no matter which way Obama turned, McCain had an Obama bashing ad ready to launch. I guess that’s political hardball. But another word for it is the one word that most politicians are loathe to use about their opponents—a lie.
Thanks for posting this, Michael. What's funny is that it's not really a revelation... Obama's camp very frankly said that they'd be attacked if they went and attacked if they didn't so they chose "don't go," and we'll see how that plays out. I find it frustrating enough that Obama gets any criticism over the trip (at least on the political scorecard front) given that McCain thought he was playing tough guy by daring Obama to go and then really had nothing to say when Obama not only went but stole all of McCain's thunder while thousands of miles away.
