Obama's No-Fear Foreign Policy

Over at Politico today I have a piece arguing that Obama is acting like a stereotypical Democrat on foreign policy . . . and we should all be a little surprised by it:

Two months into his presidency, Barack Obama is acting like a stereotypical Democrat on national security. He is reaching out to America’s enemies; he is preaching diplomatic engagement rather than flexing America’s military muscles, and he is following through on his pledge to bring the troops home from Iraq.

It is not surprising that President Obama is doing what candidate Obama said he would do. But when one considers that Democrats have spent 40 years fighting the party’s “soft” image on national security, his actions reflect a new and surprising confidence among Democrats. Instead of trying to “look” tough, the Obama team seems far more focused on doing what it thinks is in the country’s global interest.

Baloney.

Obama is expanding the Afghanistan war in both Afghanistan and Pakistan, has not reduced troop levels in Iraq and has not done anything to leash Pentagon corporate welfare spending in these difficult financial times.

Preaching--yes he has done that. A stereotypical Democrat on foreign policy, you might say. In fact, you did.
