Maybe an Evil Empire?
Posted by The Editors

From NSN intern Eric Auner

McCain just said that if he admits that Russia was not the same "evil empire" as the Soviet Union, he would not be standing up to Russia, or something to that effect. Does this mean that we cannot stand up to a nation that we don't define as evil? There are many ways that the United States can engage with Russia and show displeasure at the same time.

McCain does not seem to realize is that his rhetoric will lead to a new Cold War. How could on say that "we are all Georgians," or constantly use KGB references when talking about Putin without the Russians believeing that were are in a new Cold War. It is a shame that the MSM has not fully asked either the candidates about what is so strategically important about Georgia that we are willing to sacrifce bigger issues such as stopping the proliferration of nuclear weapons.
