Regarding Ahmadinejad's remark, Justin Raimondo writes that "homosexuality" doesn't mean the same thing in the Middle East and North Africa as it does in the Anglosphere, and so this is a matter of cultures in collision, and has more to do with differences in language than anything else.

But who cares about culture when we have another opportunity for American exceptionalism. (Bush just turned down an invitation to visit an Iranian college, although he has spoken at ones in China and elsewhere.)

Are we to believe that Ahmadinejad is a closeted gay? Or is now a target for gays? And is homophobia now being used as a pretext for war? This is funny?

I've tried to make positive contributions to DA, but I think that you people are losing it. Is there any editorial control? War is harmful to living things, mainly to women and children, and it's not funny. Not funny at all.

BOGOTA, Colombia, Oct. 3, 2007 – Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates today pledged U.S. funds to provide music education and other services to children displaced by the years of war here. Gates signed an agreement of intention to provide the funds after a meeting with Colombia’s president Alvaro Uribe Velez here at Casa de Narino, the presidential palace.

The new $343,000 grant will allow the National Batuta Foundation and Colombia’s Presidential Agency for Social Action and International Cooperation to expand to about 20 areas helping about 3,600 children along the remote areas of the Pacific Coast. [That's $95 per child, and after overhead, profit and bribes each kid might get a horn-pipe.]

The money will support children who were internally displaced and are at risk for recruitment by illegally armed groups or who are living in precarious neighborhoods, officials said. "When a child embraces a musical instrument, that child will never hold a rifle against his neighbor," the president said.

What a concept! Instead of helping the million or so Iraqi women and children living out in the desert (and other places) with their children, scrounging for food scraps and water, the US is providing music education to the children of dissidents in Colombia! (Unless they're queer.) But maybe this is a pilot program for Iraq. Let's see, now, a couple of million dissident kids, at $95 a child, . . . cheaper than Blackwater!! And then there's the profit on the resale of all those un-needed AK-47's and artillery shells as the sound of music fills the air . . .
