How About That Axis of Evil?
Posted by James Lamond

The New York Times reports today that "Iran Said to Have Nuclear Fuel for One Weapon."

According to the IAEA,

"Iran has now produced roughly enough nuclear material to make, with added purification, a single atom bomb... The report concluded that as of early this month, Iran had made 630 kilograms, or about 1,390 pounds, of low-enriched uranium."

This is just the most recent report confirming that the three so called "Axis of Evil," countries have only gotten worse during the Bush administration.  These states (Iraq, Iran, and North Korea) that President Bush said "pose a grave and growing danger," have only grown more dangerous because of the failed policies of the Bush administration.  al Qaeda has a strong hold in Iraq where it didn't before, North Korea has tested a nuclear bomb, and now Iran seems one step further.

OK, I know.  Everyone knows that Bush did a bad job.  Why keep talking about his failures? Why not focus on the future?

This is about the future. Its about the challenges that President-Elect Obama will face when he takes office.  These are problems, among others, have either been ignored or worsened under the Bush administration.  It has been eight years of failed polices that have created systematic problems that must be addressed appropriately, which will take time and might not be easy.

James, that's wacky talk. The NY Times is trying to gin up yet another war with scary headlines, and you either fell for it or you too are trying to promote another war. Which is it?

Low-enriched uranium can't be used to make a bomb, it's what is used in power plants. Get a clue, man! The IAEA is on top of this. Get a good night's sleep ant then try writing something truthful.

IAEA Report on Iran, Nov 19, 2008
file:///C:/DOCUME~1/Don/LOCALS~1/Temp/gov2008-59.pdf

"The Agency has been able to continue to verify the non-diversion of declared nuclear material in Iran. Iran has provided the Agency with access to declared nuclear material and has provided the required nuclear material accounting reports in connection with declared nuclear material and activities."

Don said it all. The uranium would be enough to make a bomb if Iran were actually enriching it further, but currently it's at 5% enrichment. It needs to be up to 90+%. That's a pretty long way. And the IAEA has cameras watching it, the barrels have IAEA seals on them...
